📬 Do mail ballots without postmarks count?

October 29, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess

🗞️ Are you getting stuff like this in the mail?

Copies of the Silver State Times on a coffee table.
Fake news? (Rob Kachelriess/City Cast Las Vegas)

The Silver State Times is one of at least seven “local” publications by Metric Media, a well-funded, nationally active conservative organization that presents glorified political ads in the form of newspapers — while claiming to “provide objective, data-driven information without political bias.”

It’s called pink slime journalism — and our City Cast counterparts in Houston and Philly have done podcasts exploring how this stuff blurs the lines of news and political shilling. Both episodes are worth a listen 👍

What's CITY Talking About?

🏡 Fire Stresses Need for Sprinkler Requirements

It’s not known if sprinklers were in a home destroyed by fire last week. Last year, Clark County joined the City of Las Vegas and Henderson to mandate sprinklers in new builds. [KSNV]

  • Two adults and two children died in the fire. A GoFundMe page is now active to help the family, including a mother and child who survived by jumping from the third floor.

🩺 Clark County Gets a Children’s Hospital

Even Shelley Berkley and Victoria Seaman both agree that Las Vegas is long overdue for a stand-alone children’s hospital. Now we’re getting one, courtesy of Intermountain Health in the Southwest Valley. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

📬 Missing a Postmark? Your Vote Still Counts

The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled that mail ballots with no postmark can be counted up to three days after Election Day. It’s worth noting this is rarely an issue. [Nevada Independent]

  • Nevada allows pre-processing of ballots, but final results could take days in what’s expected to be a close presidential election. [Nevada Current]
  • A woman in Pahrump won a million bucks by signing Elon Musk’s pledge to support the Constitution. The downside? She may have participated in something federally illegal. [NPR]

👠 Your Las Vegas Strip Club Guide

So City Cast Las Vegas co-host Sarah Lohman spoke to an entertainer from Crazy Horse 3 about what it’s like to embrace nudity for a living — and what patrons need to know before walking through the door.
