🫠 Is the election really over?

November 8, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess

📫 Are you one of those people who doesn’t check their mailbox for a few days?

Take a look. Clark County is sending out snail-mail notices for voters who need their ballot cured. We still have a few races to call … and every vote counts 🗳️

With that in mind, City Cast Las Vegas has an election-themed Friday news roundup. Hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman welcome one of Nevada’s best political journalists, Steve Sebelius of KTNV Channel 13, to talk about the fallout of curing “sick” ballots, reflections on races big and small, and a special election in Henderson where kids had the final say.

What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ The Election is (Almost) Over

Incumbent Democrat Jacky Rosen took the lead in Nevada’s hotly contested U.S. Senate race after a surge of Clark County ballots. Decision Desk HQ and the Nevada Independent officially called the race for Rosen, while the Associated Press and others stuck with “too close to call.” [KTNV/Nevada Independent]

  • Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford are all returning to the U.S. House. [Nevada Current]
  • Even before the race was officially called, Victoria Seaman conceded the Las Vegas mayor’s race. Shelley Berkley will take the city’s top job from Carolyn Goodman on December 4. [KSNV/Nevada Independent]

❄️ Body Found … Where?

Police on a welfare check found a 68-year-old woman dead in a freezer. Investigators called the circumstances suspicious. (I already figured that part out.) A man and woman inside the home were taken into custody. [KLAS]

🔥 Town Square Fire = No Biggie

Reports of Mark Wahlberg’s restaurant's death were greatly exaggerated. Despite initial descriptions of going “up in flames” at Town Square, the fire at Flecha Cantina turned out to be relatively minor, involving a fire pit on the outdoor patio. [KSNV]

🌳 Art for Park’s Sake

The Las Vegas Museum of Art will have an outdoor sculpture garden when it opens in 2028 — you know, when we’re consumed with the next presidential election 😳 The space in fast-developing Symphony Park will have walkways, art installations, and the ability to host farmers markets and other events.
