😲 Is the Neonopolis … successful?
November 22, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess
🏁 Tomorrow night’s Las Vegas Grand Prix is shaping up to be the coldest race in Formula 1 history 🥶 Bundle up!

And don’t forget to read our F1 weekend guide for locals. There’s a lot to see and do around town — beyond the race itself. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]

What's CITY Talking About?

🚔 Will Police Officer Face Charges?
Protesters hit the streets of Downtown at 2 p.m. tomorrow in support of a man who called 911 for help, but was the one shot and killed when police showed up. The story is attracting national attention and the D.A. hasn’t ruled out charges for the officer. City Cast Las Vegas co-hosts Sarah Lohman and Dayvid Figler cover all the angles of what happened with April Corbin Girnus of the Nevada Current. The Friday news roundup also tackles a new plan to turn a golf course into affordable housing and what it takes to be named the dirtiest hotel and casino in Las Vegas 🧹 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🪧 Civil, But Disobedient
Voices will be heard in front of Virgin Hotels too. The employee strike is expected to last throughout F1 weekend — and possibly longer. Civil disobedience arrests were planned in advance last night, prompting criticism of the Culinary Union by the resort. [KSNV]
💧 Water Management Crisis
The Colorado River is running out of water and well, we have options according to the federal government. The lower basin states of Nevada, Arizona, and California (go team!) want the upper basin states of Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado to cut usage like we do, even though they already use far less than their allocated share. 🎉 The Neonopolis is … Successful?
The Neonopolis always looks empty, but it’s actually 90 percent leased 🤯 Things are going so well, a second Vegas location for the Hush Puppy restaurant is coming in early 2025 and the rooftop could soon welcome theme park-style attractions. [KLAS]
🫣 Car Crashes Into Dollar Tree
A car backed up, lost control, and crashed into a Dollar Tree near Trop and Pecos, causing at least 99 cents worth of damage. [KVVU]

❄️ We began today’s newsletter talking about how cold it’s going to be this weekend.
That’s bad news for race fans, but good news for the Lee Canyon ski and snowboard resort, which is kicking off its daily winter season today with a 16-inch base and three out of five ski lifts open ⛷️
It’s the first time in more than a decade that Lee Canyon opened its winter season before Thanksgiving.
