🎰 How the City of Las Vegas got its shape
December 4, 2024 · Rob Kachelriess
🎭 Looking for something fun — and cheap — tonight?
Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” is about a knight who tries to scam two women out of money by seducing them — kinda like a 15th century version of catfishing 🙀
See how the revenge comedy turns out during a pay-what-you-can preview performance by the Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV’s Black Box Theatre. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

What's CITY Talking About?

🏟️ Sam Boyd Stadium: Fate Unclear
Remember when acts like U2 would play Sam Boyd Stadium? (See above photo from 2009 ☝️) Well, the place has been vacant since Allegiant Stadium came around, spare a moment as a vaccine clinic during the pandemic. Now, Clark County is buying back the 36,000-seat venue for $5 million, likely tearing it down to make better use of the 69-acre site. [KLAS]
🥵 The Price of Drought Adds Up
It will cost nearly $9 million to fix illegal roads created by drivers to reach the dwindling waters at Lake Mead. Work should be done in five years. [KVVU]
📣 Union to Virgin Hotels: ‘Go Back to Canada’
The Culinary Union took its battle with Virgin Hotels to the Clark County Commission, pushing for Formula 1 to drop its association with the resort. (That’s not going to happen. F1 is the only reason Virgin Hotels ever gets busy.) A union rep said property investors "should go back to Canada if they are not going to meet the Las Vegas standard." [KSNV]
🚨 What Mass Deportations Mean in Nevada
Nevada gave Donald Trump its electoral votes — and could give up thousands of migrant workers if the incoming president keeps his word to deport undocumented immigrants. Nevada has the largest per capita undocumented population of any state and the largest share of mixed-status families. [Nevada Independent]
- With that in mind, City Cast Las Vegas co-host Dayvid Figler spoke to UNLV law professor and immigration clinic director Michael Kagan about how deportations could unfold in Las Vegas, impacting not only families, but the local economy. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
