What's CITY Talking About?

💀 Dead-End Strip Mall

Despite passing a law in 2019 to more seriously regulate businesses that handle human remains, Nevada has yet to finalize standards and begin enforcement. That’s according to an NBC investigation that looks into the questionable history of Med Ed Labs, a company that acquired, stored, leased, and sold human bodies out of a strip mall near Sunset and Eastern. The business (run by a former chiropractor who lost his license) operated with little oversight and earned the scorn of a widow whose late husband was put on display at an Oddities & Curiosities Expo. Feet might've gone missing too 😳 [NBC News]

⛏️ Mine Cleanup Bill Heads to the President’s Desk

Nevada may be ranked #47 of all states when it comes to education, but we’re #1 in abandoned mines 🥳 There’s about 200,000 of ‘em in the Silver State and now Rep. Susie Lee’s bill that clears red tape to clean up low-risk mines is expected to be signed by President Biden in what could be one of his final official acts in office. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

💧 Lake Mead’s Water Levels Are … Rising

The water level at Lake Mead is up by 16 feet — and you have Californians to thank. Water use in the Golden State has dwindled to levels not seen since the 1940s, due mostly to conservation efforts by farmers over the past two years. [SFGATE]

🧑‍🎄 News Alert: It’s 13 Days Until Christmas

With that lucky number in mind, I joined City Cast Las Vegas co-host Dayvid Figler to discuss the skyrocketing presence of holiday pop-ups in Las Vegas, from events to bars and more. Is the winter holiday spirit becoming destination driven? Pop by for a listen! [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

What To Do

Thursday, Dec. 12

Friday, Dec. 13

🛒 Hey, remember when we talked about the consequences of the two largest grocery chains in Las Vegas merging?

Well, the honeymoon is over before the marriage began. Albertsons pulled out of its deal with Kroger and is now suing its competitor 💔

Happy holidays!
