What's CITY Talking About?
🚨 Police Officer Mourned and Honored
A procession took place yesterday for North Las Vegas police officer Jason Roscow, shot and killed by Alexander Mathis, a 25-year old known to sleep in parks. Neighbors say Mathis was throwing rocks and threatening someone with a gun when police arrived. Mathis failed to obey orders and shot Roscow multiple times, but the officer managed to return fire while injured, killing the suspect. The 17-year department veteran was just 46 years old. 🐶 Mandatory Microchipping
Clark County passed a series of new laws related to pet ownership. The big one: Microchipping is now mandatory for dogs and cats with free events planned to help get your pet covered. [KTNV]
👫 Nevada Legislature Goes Gender Neutral
“Assemblymen” and “Assemblywomen” are out. “Assemblymembers” is in. The decision was decided by vote — backed by Democrats, opposed by Republicans — during the first week of the legislature’s new session in Carson City. [Nevada Independent]
🏆 We’re #4!
A new study ranks Las Vegas as the 4th best U.S. city for Valentine’s Day this year. We scored 1st place in restaurants and chocolate shops per capita, but 52nd in the cost of a three-course meal for two 😕 [WalletHub]
- With that in mind, City Cast Las Vegas co-host Dayvid Figler spoke to two of our favorite online foodies — Giselle D’Souza (NothingtodolvEATS) and Phil Tzeng (lasvegasfill) — about the most romantic restaurants in Las Vegas. This episode covers it all, from indulgent splurges to affordable picks that won’t break the bank. So listen, learn, and book that reservation! Valentine’s Day is just a week from tomorrow.
