💘 Final warning …
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Don’t mess it up. If you need a last-minute gift, get some locally made chocolates (and walk through the Lights of Love) at the Ethel M Chocolate Factory in Henderson.

City Cast Las Vegas co-host and culinary historian Sarah Lohman talked to chief chocolatier Mark Mackey about how Ethel M ended up in Southern Nevada and why it’s stuck around for more than 40 years 😋 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

What's CITY Talking About?
🚨 How the Murder of a Police Officer Played Out
Bodycam video shows that Alexander Mathis fired five rounds from a 9mm handgun at North Las Vegas Police Officer Jason Roscow, then stood over the fallen officer while continuing to aim his weapon. Despite injuries, Roscow returned 16 rounds of fire toward his attacker. Both died from gunshot wounds. A second officer fired one round. [KVVU]
- Officer Roscow's funeral is today, following a procession that begins at 9 a.m. [KLAS]
🧐 The Superintendent Sweepstakes Nears End
After 46 applicants were considered, we’re down to six finalists in the search for a new Clark County superintendent:
- Jhone Ebert — Nevada State Superintendent
- Pedro Martinez — Chicago Public Schools CEO
- Jason Glass — Former Kentucky Dept. of Education Commissioner
- Joshua Starr — Former Montgomery County (MD) Public Schools Superintendent
- Jon Anzalone — Camas (WA) School District Superintendent
- Ben Shuldiner — Lansing (MI) School District Superintendent
Good luck to all. The runners up will receive a participation trophy and a copy of the home game. [Clark County School District]
🛫 A Desert Airport: Too Disruptive?
Las Vegas hopes to have two runways open at a new airport between Jean and Primm by 2038 — give or take. Up next: an environmental review to examine the impact of the project on the desert tortoise and a plant that only grows in parts of the Mojave Desert. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🌎 You Want It That Way?
We’ve entered the “everyone’s gonna play the Sphere” era of Las Vegas now that the Backstreet Boys are booked for nine dates in July. [Variety]
- Meanwhile, a recent Vegas performance has Mariah Carey fans asking “Is she OK?” 😳 [Access Hollywood]
- Subscriptions for the new 2025-2026 Broadway season at the Smith Center may be a better return on your entertainment dollar with “Some Like It Hot,” “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical,” “Suffs,” “Stereophonic,” “Disney’s The Lion King,” “Spamalot,” “The Notebook,” “Shucked,” and “Hell’s Kitchen” coming to the venue.
