⛰️ A stupid selfie on Mt. Charleston
February 21, 2025 · Rob Kachelriess
🎙️ Hey Vegas …
I’m surprised to hear John Huck is leaving FOX 5. I was a news producer at the station for more than four years and worked with John closely. (I even produced The Rant at one point — trust me, you don’t want to hear the phone calls that don’t make it on air.)
John is a pro, class act, and all-around good dude. Sounds like he has a new venture in the works. I wish him the best.
Cheers to a great run 🥂

What's CITY Talking About?

🫨 Nevada Lawmakers Set Mode to ‘Aggressive’
The Nevada Legislature is introducing WAY more bills than usual this session — 438 in just the first three days. They cover a lot of ground, from bounce house regulations to rules about medical debt being reported to credit agencies. [Nevada Independent]
- A pair of competing bills involve tax credits for two different movie studios in Las Vegas — although Warner Bros. dropped its involvement with one of ‘em. [KTNV]
- The legislature might even change the date of an important holiday 👀 City Cast Las Vegas has the details in the latest Friday news roundup. Co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman welcome Michael “MJ” Lyle of the Nevada Current to talk about the proposal in Carson City — plus, the controversy surrounding Henderson’s police chief, questions about a new resource center for the unhoused, and a scary attraction coming to AREA15. 🚨 Kash Patel Confirmed as FBI Director
He’s a Vegas resident. I had no idea either. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🎰 Gambling With Your Job
Mistake number one: Losing hundreds of thousands in Vegas casinos. Mistake number two: Trying to offset the loss by stealing $162,000 from your place of work, which happens to be a gun and ammo shop. Now that employee is facing embezzlement charges, but hey — she sent a text promising to pay it back 😬 [KLAS]
🐴 Jackass Takes Photo of Horse
Here’s another reminder that everything in life doesn't have to be documented on your smartphone. Some guy was caught grabbing the face of a wild horse — both illegal and dangerous — to take a selfie on Mt. Charleston. Please, don’t do that. Or I’ll grab your face. [KVVU]
👟 Major Road Closures This Weekend
A few Downtown roads will close on Saturday night and the Strip will close on Sunday night for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series. If you want to take part in the 5K, 10K, or half-marathon, online registration is over, but in-person registration is available on a limited basis at the event’s free health and wellness expo at Resorts World.
- Don’t want to run? Me neither. The Sunday morning Yoga on the Strip is more my speed 🧘 [Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series]
