💥 Time to implode Whiskey Pete’s?
February 24, 2025 · Rob Kachelriess
🐿️ Forget about groundhogs.
Las Vegas has Mojave Max, and the Springs Preserve is celebrating 25 years of waiting for the desert tortoise to emerge from his underground dwelling to signal the semi-official arrival of spring.
For the first time, the general public is invited to join elementary school students to predict the date and time of the big reveal for the chance to win a prize 👀

So we couldn’t have chosen a better time to reflect on the presence of desert tortoises in Southern Nevada. City Cast Las Vegas co-host Sarah Lohman talks to wildlife biologist Beth Wolff about these fascinating reptiles, including their surprising self-defense mechanism, what to do if you see one on the side of the road, and other fun facts 🐢 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🎰 Funeral Delayed for Whiskey Pete?
Still no word on the fate of Whiskey Pete’s in Primm. The 777-room property closed in December and Affinity Gaming hasn’t made a decision on whether to implode it or not. The company hasn’t ruled out reviving the hotel in the future either. If so, it would be targeted to families more than gamblers. [Nevada Independent]
💔 Deadly Catfishing
A woman with a home in Las Vegas is in custody for what the FBI describes as a “romance scam on steroids.” Aurora Phelps is accused of drugging and robbing men she met via dating apps. In three cases, the victims ended up dead. [NBC News]
🚴 New Danger for Students: E-Bikes
At least 84 students have been hit by cars this year. That sounds like a lot! But it’s actually a decrease from the previous year’s stats. However, six of those students were riding e-bikes or scooters, a new trend that’s ringing alarm bells among police and parents. [KSNV]
🏆 Super Bowl Celebration
It took a minute, but the Eagles made it to a Vegas nightclub — XS at the Wynn — to celebrate their Super Bowl win. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

Where Is It?

🎸 Elvis Presley is no stranger to Las Vegas. The King had a groundbreaking residency in the ‘70s at the hotel now known as the Westgate and his image remains synonymous with Sin City.
So it should be easy to pinpoint the location of this statue, right? Maybe not.
Where is it?
A. The Elvis Chapel in the Downtown Arts District?
B. The International Theater inside the Westgate?
