👷 Why Dropicana is taking so long

Hey,

When was the last time you were at Town Square?

Town Square at night.
Town Square’s got fresh mojo. (Rob Kachelriess/City Cast Las Vegas)

The place has been around forever, but suddenly feels new again. The outdoor shopping mall recently added some new attractions — including at least one restaurant I wouldn’t hesitate to rank among the best in Las Vegas right now.

So I got together with City Cast Las Vegas co-host Dayvid Figler to discuss all things Town Square — its history, new stuff to do, and old businesses still worth checking out. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

What's CITY Talking About?

🔥 History Up in Flames

The Star View Motel on Fremont Street caught fire early yesterday morning. No word yet on what set off the flames but no one was reported hurt. The motel dates back to 1953, but has been closed for years. [KVVU/The Historic Las Vegas Project]

🎰 New Casino’s No Joke

Boyd Gaming is gearing up to start construction on a new casino to replace Joker’s Wild in Henderson. Work on Cadence Crossing should be done by the middle of next year. [KSNV]

🎭 We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Space

They’re calling it The Space 2.0, a new $50 million, five-story, 80,000-square-foot building for the home of Mondays Dark, community resources, and the first Vegas location for the Entertainment Community Fund. Expect ground to break next year and work to be done by 2028. [Hollywood Reporter]

  • Founder Mark Shunock talks to City Cast Las Vegas about the important role of Mondays Dark in giving back to the community. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

⛽ Thanks California

You probably noticed — gas prices jumped recently here in Nevada. One reason is the usual switch in seasonal blends. But this time, you get to blame California too. The Golden State has a new law requiring a certain amount of gasoline to be kept in reserve to offset any potential shortage. That means less supply heading our way, causing prices to inch higher. 👍 👎 You may have noticed …

Dayvid Figler has an opinion on anything and everything. Even movies 🍿 So the City Cast Las Vegas co-host took a moment out of his busy schedule to write a review and commentary on “The Last Showgirl” for Book and Film Globe.

(I may have weighed in on the movie somewhere too.)
