What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ Close Elections in Nevada Could Change

State lawmakers have introduced a bill that would trigger automatic recounts in races decided by a margin of 0.25% or less and eliminate the need for candidates to foot the bill. Candidates would be allowed to request a recount if the margin of victory is between the new automatic benchmark and 5% — the requestor would have to pay for the cost of that recount. [KSNV]

🧑‍🏫 CCSD Superintendent Search Narrows

The Clark County School District board has selected Jhone Ebert, Ben Shuldiner, and Jesse Welsh as finalists for the top position. The candidates will face off in a public forum on March 10, with a final decision expected March 13. [Las Vegas Sun 🔒]

🛩️ A New Event Venue Lands in Las Vegas

Amid heightened anxiety over commercial aviation, Area15 is giving people a chance to dine and party inside a decommissioned Boeing 747 as part of its expansion — no word on an opening date yet. The plane used to host interactive art exhibits at Burning Man, so it’s no stranger to desert vibes. [KLAS]

🚥 Police Want To Bring Back Traffic Cams

Among the topics covered by Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill during the annual update on the police department was a promise to push for the repeal of Nevada’s 1999 ban on red-light traffic cameras. Gov. Joe Lombardo supports the idea, but it’s up against public opposition and privacy concerns. [KTNV]
