City Cast Las Vegas
🚣 Are your summer vacation plans in jeopardy?
March 4, 2025 · Rob Kachelriess
☀️ Hola!
I’m back after a birthday vacation in Cancun, ready to go with a newfound appreciation of coffee and Corona in the morning 🍻
Thanks to Adrian for filling in — and doing a great job — while I was away. Now, let’s catch up on what’s happening here in Vegas.

What's CITY Talking About?

🚣 Lake Mead, Now With Fewer Employees
Filmmaker Ken Burns called our national parks system “America’s best idea” — so laying off the people who clean and operate ‘em could turn out to be one of our worst ideas. At least 12 workers were DOGE'd at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, prompting protests over the weekend in front of the visitor center. [KTNV]
- City Cast Las Vegas co-host Sarah Lohman talks to Bertha Gutierrez of the Conservation Lands Foundation about the toll of federal spending cuts on national parks, forests, and other destinations that could affect your spring and summer vacation plans. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🚗 $160 Million Traffic Headache
A project to widen lanes between Pecos and Stephanie on the 215 will cost more than originally planned. I’m betting five bucks it will take longer than originally planned, too ⏳ [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- Southern Nevada is full of headache-inducing traffic projects that are taking way too long. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]
🎸 Jagged Little Residency
Would Alanis Morisette sing to you … in a theater? She will if you score tickets to her first-ever Vegas residency inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Eight shows are booked in October and November. [Billboard]
🥞 Free Pancakes Today! (And Other March Giveaways)
For some reason, March is full of free stuff, including:
- A short stack of pancakes at IHOP for National Pancake Day, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 4.
- A glazed doughnut at Krispy Kreme for those wearing Mardi Gras beads for Fat Tuesday (also today, March 4).
- A vanilla cone at DQ for the first day of Spring on March 20.
- Access for fourth graders to parks and historic sites throughout Nevada and the rest of the U.S. by signing up for an Every Kid Outdoors pass, which allows anyone 16 and under in the household and up to three parents to tag along — good through Aug. 31. [NBC News]

🏆 Congrats to “Anora” — filmed partially in Las Vegas — on its big Oscar wins, including Best Picture. Well deserved 👍
I saw the movie over the weekend while flying on American Airlines. I’ve never seen so much nudity offered as in-flight entertainment 🫣
