What's CITY Talking About?

👊 George Foreman’s Vegas Legacy
Las Vegas joins the sports community in remembering George Foreman, who passed away Friday at 76. He had 13 professional fights in Nevada, including an improbable 1994 championship victory over Michael Moorer at the MGM Grand, capping a late career comeback at 46 and reclaiming a title he lost 20 years earlier to Muhammad Ali. [ESPN]
- I’m honoring that victory tonight with a burger on the George Foreman Grill. My generation had at least one of those things in every home, apartment, and college dorm throughout our lives. It was also everyone’s default Secret Santa gift for years, since it was the best thing you could buy for $20 or less 🤑
💧 Hard Water
A product advertised as the “healthiest drinking water available” turned out to be the deadliest. And now the Vegas company behind Real Water has been ordered by a jury to hand over at least $70 million in damages, following two previous verdicts worth billions. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
✍️ Furthering Education
President Trump is doing everything possible to eliminate the Department of Education — and Governor Lombardo is on board. So where does that leave Nevada? Today, the legislature looks at a new bill to fill in the gaps on education funding and services. [KTNV]
👀 Another Day, Another Monolith
A 12-foot monolith similar to the one that caused a fuss on Gass Peak last summer appeared Friday at Seven Magic Mountains and could be removed by the time you read this. The new monolith has a QR code advertising cryptocurrency — so probably not the work of aliens 👽 [KVVU]
- We’ve only made it to the first weekend of spring and it’s already been a crazy year. Relive some of the wildest news stories we’ve seen so far in 2025 with a game of “guess the quote” on today’s episode of City Cast Las Vegas. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
