😳 Sperm racing is coming to Vegas
May 1, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
👋 Hi all. You may have seen this …
“60 Minutes” ran an editorial criticizing its parent company for placing the fate of a corporate merger above independent journalism, prompting the show’s executive producer to resign.
That says a lot about the state of modern news in the United States.
It's one of the reasons our City Cast Neighbor membership program is so important. Our scope is nowhere near what "60 Minutes" does, but we cover Las Vegas with experience, perspective, and 100% honesty, whether it's a questionable waste dump, the legacy of Elaine Wynn, or a brief look at the daily headlines to start your day.
Nobody else is producing a daily podcast and newsletter in Las Vegas with locals in mind. Both will continue to be free, which is why memberships are so crucial to our work. Your support of independent news means everything — now more than ever.

What's CITY Talking About?

🏗️ Ground Broken on Symphony Park High-Rise
Work is officially underway on Downtown’s first new residential building in 15 years. Units at the 32-story Cello Tower begin at $700,000 and about half of ‘em have already been sold — impressive, considering the luxury high-rise doesn’t even exist yet. [KTNV]
🏃 The Solution to Pedestrian Collisions? 🚗
As the ongoing battle between cars and pedestrians continues in Las Vegas, a fence that runs down the center of Boulder Highway to discourage jaywalking appears to be working. The evidence — the fence is now being extended from between Flamingo and Nellis all the way to Sahara. [KLAS]
😳 Sperm Racing Swims to Vegas
After the Los Angeles debut of “sperm racing,” in which DNA samples compete to cross a finish line underneath a microscope, organizers are in talks to bring a bigger version of the event to Las Vegas with celebrity guests. No location was given, although the Sphere was mentioned — a joke I’m assuming, but I don’t want that information to be premature. [TMZ]
