What's CITY Talking About?

🎸 Rockin’ in the Free World

The Fremont Street Experience revealed this year’s lineup for the Downtown Rocks free concert series. It goes heavy on the rock of the ‘90s and early aughts with Hinder, Drowning Pool, Saliva, Alien Ant Farm, and Jet all playing Memorial Day Weekend to kick things off. [Fremont Street Experience]

🛌 New Hotel Planned Near Allegiant Stadium

Clark County will consider plans for a new eight-story hotel within walking distance of Allegiant Stadium near Valley View and Russell. Don’t get too excited. It’s an Embassy Suites — somewhat routine by Vegas standards (although the sushi bar and rooftop pool sound nice 🍣). However, it could help reshape the industrial area into an entertainment district around the stadium. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🤔 What is DOGE Nevada Anyway?

A newly announced “DOGE” office in Nevada has nothing to do with the budget-slashing federal department of the same name — at least officially. It’s a volunteer registered nonprofit that analyzes data to identify waste in state government spending. Some examples: $12 million for a pickleball complex and $9 million for rural internet services that never happened. [KLAS]

  • I had a few thoughts about this, so I joined City Cast Las Vegas for the latest Friday news roundup — a lively discussion that also included two education bills and yes, the phenomenon of “sperm racing” in Las Vegas 🙃
