🏜️ Why isn't Lake Mead a national park?
May 7, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🎶 Hey! Want to see the world’s biggest pop stars in person … for free?
Apply to be a seat filler or audience member for the American Music Awards (which appear to be taking place at the Fontainebleau) on May 26. Act fast. I have a feeling these spots will get snatched up quickly.
You can also score $150 to spend a few hours at a pre-taped performance shoot on May 24.

What's CITY Talking About?

🌧️ Record-Breaking Rain
I can’t remember the last time I saw this much rain in May. (Is Lake Mead filling back up yet?) Vegas actually broke a daily rainfall record on Monday that dated back to 1969. It was 0.57 inches — a big deal ‘round here. [Newsweek]
🛎️ Hotel Job Cuts Continue in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is in a new period of readjustment, coming off a post-pandemic boom while facing uncertain economics and soft tourist numbers. After layoffs at the Venetian, Rio, and Resorts World, MGM Resorts cut concierge positions at six Strip properties — a job once synonymous with the Vegas hotel experience. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- Was the move an example of belt-tightening, adjusting to customer preferences — or a little bit of both? City Cast Las Vegas takes an inside look at the state of concierge services and how artificial intelligence is becoming a factor. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🚪 Burlesque Museum Shutting Down
The Burlesque Hall of Fame will close the doors to its Arts District museum on July 20. The organization says a drop in visitors has coincided with the recent drop in tourism and federal cuts in humanities funding has affected much-needed donations to operate. [burlesquehall/Instagram]
😣 Restaurants Close After Piero’s Drama
Two restaurants abruptly closed — Bramàre off the Strip and Table 34 in Henderson. The common element? Both were run in part by Evan Glusman, recently arrested on accusations of fraud and threatening to shoot up his father’s iconic Piero’s restaurant. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- Bramàre was one of our favorite new restaurants in Las Vegas. We’re bummed to see it go. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]
