What's CITY Talking About?

🚏 Militarized Mass Transit?

The RTC is increasing security measures on buses and at transit centers with a $26-million investment this year. City Cast Las Vegas explains why it’s happening during the latest Friday news roundup, along with a Strip bed bugs update and why Southern Nevada has a hard time keeping doctors after residency training. ⚡ NV Energy Overcharges Customers

NV Energy admits to overcharging at least 80,000 customers by millions of dollars. The company tried to make up for it by offering refunds for a mere fraction of the overpayment 🤔 Let’s try again. [Nevada Current]

🚔 Amy Tarkanian Arrested

Former Nevada Republican Party chairperson Amy Tarkanian — best known as the wife of Danny Tarkanian, who’s best known as the son of legendary UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian — was arrested on DUI charges in Florida. According to a report, she was slouched over the wheel, then hit the gas when police woke her up, hitting a parked car. Even more surprising — she allegedly got this hammered drinking White Claw 😳 [KSNV]

🤳 Influencer Faces Theft Charges

Bobbi Awad is accused of stealing more than $2 million from real estate investors and motivational speakers Grant and Elena Cardone, much of it done via credit card and Amazon purchases. You may know Awad from Instagram, where she lists her occupation as “public figure” under the name Bobbi Vargas. [KLAS]

🏁 Formula 1’s Most Convenient Viewing Party

In what appears to be a gesture of goodwill toward businesses affected by traffic and construction, Formula 1 is allowing a 7-Eleven by the track on Koval and Flamingo to show a broadcast feed of the Las Vegas Grand Prix on a video screen. (I predict dynamic pricing on Big Gulps.) [KSNV]
