🤔 Who started resort fees anyway?
May 19, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🌤️ Welcome back,
Between Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis, a terror attack in Palm Springs, and a sailing ship crashing into the Brooklyn Bridge, it’s been anything but a slow news weekend.
We’ve got some things to talk about in Las Vegas too 👇

What's CITY Talking About?
🚨 LVAC Shooting Investigation Continues
Police still haven’t released details on what led up to Friday’s shooting rampage at the Las Vegas Athletic Club near Rainbow and Lake Mead. We now know the name of the longtime employee who was killed, how one victim survived, and the identities of the officers involved in the confrontation, which ended with the suspect dead. [KSNV]
💰 Brazen Robbery in the Heart of the Strip
Suspects remain at large after a robbery and shots fired at an address described as the “3500 block of South Las Vegas Blvd.” To translate the police jargon, that narrows it down to Caesars Palace or the Forum Shops. Nobody was reported hurt. [KTNV]
🛎️ Production Delay for Circa Sequel
Despite Mayor Berkley mentioning a “Circa 2” expansion of Downtown’s tallest resort, we’re still “years away” from an announcement, let alone shovels in the ground. Land for a possible second Circa tower is currently leased as a construction lot for the neighboring Cello residential tower in Symphony Park, although it remains zoned for gambling. [KLAS]
💵 Whatever Happened to ‘No Taxes on Tips’?
Donald Trump introduced the idea of “No Taxes on Tips” during a 2024 campaign stop in Las Vegas — and the idea is still filed under “wait-and-see.” House Republicans allowed a provision for tipped workers to claim a 100% federal tax deduction on income under $160,000 in a new spending bill, which they hope to pass by Memorial Day. - So what now? As lawmakers continue the debate this week, City Cast Las Vegas revisits the “No Taxes on Tips” movement, which has bipartisan support for the core idea, but not necessarily on how to make it become law. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
