What's CITY Talking About?
🚨 Gun Malfunction Saved Lives
Daniel Ortega fired 24 rounds inside a Las Vegas Athletic Club Friday before his AR-style assault weapon malfunctioned, which “saved this from being a mass casualty event,” according to police. The 34-year-old was armed with multiple magazines of ammunition and there was “no connection” between him and the employee killed. Three others were injured. Ortega was a member of the gym, but a motive has yet to be determined. [Las Vegas Metropolitan Police]
🐔 Chickens Stolen From Vegas Farm
More than 200 chickens and a turkey were stolen from Las Vegas Livestock, likely by someone familiar with the property. The farm is asking for any tips, so if you have a neighbor or know someone who has a large flock all of a sudden — and that would be hard to miss — please report the info. [KVVU]
🎰 Wynn’s New York Dreams Go Bust
If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere — and if not, there’s always Macau. Wynn Resorts officially ended its attempt to open a New York City casino, citing zoning issues and “persistent opposition.” [KSNV]
🥃 Has Vegas Reached a Limit on Speakeasies?
I say no. Sarah Lohman says yes. Dayvid Figler is somewhere in the middle — I think. Listen in as I join the City Cast Las Vegas team to discuss the history of speakeasy bars in Vegas, the ones worth your attention today, and if the gimmick has gotten out of hand. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
