🍽️ A hotel fee for silverware?

🔥 It’s Friday — and we’re expecting record heat this weekend.

Be safe, stay indoors, and please look after your kids and pets 🙏

What's CITY Talking About?

🎰 Fontainebleau Lays Off Casino Workers

The Fontainebleau is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week. Just days after word leaked about a gaming violation investigation, the resort is laying off up to 60 casino dealers while Vegas faces three straight months (and counting) of year-over-year declines in gambling revenue. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • City Cast Las Vegas discusses the state of the Fontainebleau as well as our valley’s population boom and some odd billboards popping up around town. It’s all part of the latest Friday news roundup. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

👮 Police Staffing Updates

  • Henderson has a new police chief (again). This time, it’s Reggie Rader, who sounds like he should be the name of a children's cartoon character, but is actually a former Metro deputy chief. [KLAS]
  • Suspended Metro Sgt. Kevin Menon agreed to a plea deal that will land him in prison for 4-10 years. His charges cover a lot of ground: abuse of power in arresting tourists, taking bathroom photos with a hidden camera, and possession of child pornography. [KVVU]

😡 Henderson Road Rage Caught on Camera

If you consider road rage a spectator sport, you’ll enjoy this Boulder Highway video of a guy ramming a truck into another vehicle, stomping on a windshield, getting into a fight, and threatening a construction crew before getting arrested. [KSNV]

🗳️ Danny Tarkanian Back in Campaign Mode

Danny Tarkanian — famous for losing elections and having a legendary basketball coach for a dad — is now running for Nevada Attorney General. He’s actually in his second term as Douglas County Commissioner, so maybe things are looking up? 🤷 [KLAS]

🍽️ A Hotel Charge for Plates and Silverware

Our fee society is alive and well, especially in Las Vegas where MGM Resorts now offers two options for in-room dining — or what we used to call “room service” back in the day. In addition to the inflated food prices, guests can now opt for “classic service” for an extra $25, which includes perks like plates, silverware, napkins, and a tablecloth. Otherwise, you get food delivered in takeaway containers — and even that comes with an additional $10 charge 😐 [Vital Vegas]
