🥵 How was your weekend? Hot, right?

If you’re looking to cool off with a big blast of air conditioning, step inside the Pinhall Hall of Fame. City Cast Las Vegas paid a visit recently to discuss the history of the interactive museum and why it’s a tourist attraction that even locals love. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

What's CITY Talking About?

🤔 Is Las Vegas a Sanctuary City?

Depends on who you ask. The mayor, Nevada’s governor, and pretty much anyone else who lives here say no. The Department of Homeland Security believes otherwise, listing the City of Las Vegas as a sanctuary jurisdiction, citing a failure to enforce federal immigration laws. [KTNV]

👋 That’s a Wrap in Carson City

The Nevada’s legislative session comes to an official close today — and yes, it’s been a riveting few months 🥱 Lawmakers spent the final days weighing Gov. Lombardo’s crime bill (which opponents say is too harsh) and health bill (introduced with a story about how the governor’s own grandson had to go out of state for an emergency surgery). See how everything turned out with the Nevada Independent’s online bill tracker. [Nevada Independent]

😶‍🌫️ Northwest Home Is a Marijuana Factory

Somebody got busted with illegal weed — about 800 pounds worth. Police seized the stash from a home near Alexander and Tenaya. I’m sure neighbors got a whiff that something was up. [KVVU]

Where Is It?

A Buddha statue surrounded by trees.

The Maitreya Buddha (or Laughing Buddha) is a symbol of good luck, holding a fan to wave away obstacles and a koi fish to symbolize abundance, while standing on a tortoise for longevity. It's a Chinese tradition to rub the belly of the statue for good luck.

So … where is it?

A. Outside the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat?

B. Desert Breeze Park on Spring Mountain Road?

C. Paseo Vista Park in Henderson?

D. Along a pathway at Resorts World?

What To Do

Monday, June 2

Tuesday, June 3

🏜️ Correction: In our City Cast Las Vegas episode about June activities, we mentioned state parks would offer free entry for Juneteenth on June 19. That deal actually applies to National Park Service sites (which covers Lake Mead).

But don’t fret. Nevada State Parks have free admission every second Saturday in June, which falls on June 14 this year 👍
