🏎️ The fate of Formula 1 in Vegas
June 16, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
👷 Welcome back from the weekend.
Now that Dropicana is (almost) cleared up, there’s another project to make your drive to the Strip more difficult. Work begins today to fix a waterline on Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana and Russell. It should only take two years ⏳

What's CITY Talking About?

👑 Thousands March in ‘No Kings’ Protest
Around 8,000 Las Vegans joined the national “No Kings” movement Saturday, taking to the streets to wish President Trump an unhappy birthday.
- Just 15 were arrested — not bad compared to nearly 100 taken into custody Wednesday in a similar, but much smaller protest. [KLAS]
- Downtown business owners took no chances, boarding up windows in advance. [KVVU]
- The ACLU of Nevada has a hotline to report rights violations related to the protest. [KVVU]
- A firework that exploded on the Strip early Saturday morning appears to be unrelated, setting a palm tree on fire and prompting national media to completely overreact. Our condolences to the friends and family of the palm tree. [New York Post]
🏁 F1 Extension Reached
Brace yourself: Formula 1 will stick around in Las Vegas for at least two more years. The LVCVA is planning on the Las Vegas Grand Prix “being a permanent race (continuing with) extensions that will probably expand as we go forward.” [New York Times]
🛬 Emergency Landing Caught on Video
Whenever I hear about an airport mishap of some sort, three words come to mind: North Las Vegas? That was the case again as a small plane took its chances with the runway after the landing gear failed to deploy. It was caught on video — and it’s fun to watch the plane skid out knowing nobody got hurt 👍 [KMPH]

🏗️ What Midtown Means for the Arts District
Less than two months ago, developers held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new community called Midtown — and unlike the A’s baseball stadium, we’re pretty confident this show of shovels in the ground will actually lead to something getting built. City Cast Las Vegas offers a preview of what to expect as Midtown brings an ambitious residential project to the Downtown Arts District. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Where Is It?

It never gets old — gorgeous red rock scenery in the Southwest desert outside Las Vegas.
So … where is it?
(Hint: If you follow us on Instagram, you already know the answer.) 😉

🤑 You already know … $45 is the magic number for a great lunch deal on the Strip.
Add this to the list: Sushi Roku (one of my favorite bang-for-your-buck Japanese restaurants) has an International Sushi Day special from today through Friday. For that price, you get a baked crab handroll, spicy tuna cut roll, and a sashimi spread, including good stuff like toro and hirame 🍣 👀
