City Cast Las Vegas
☀️ The rules of summer in Vegas
June 17, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
☕ Good morning!
And congrats to Director of Aviation Rosemary Vassiliadis, who’s retiring after 28 years with Clark County. She joined us last year for a first-class conversation about expanding the airport 🛫
What's CITY Talking About?
😸 Pet College Coming Soon
You may have noticed — we've got too many pets and not enough vets in Las Vegas. Roseman University is helping solve that problem with plans for a new College of Veterinary Medicine at its Henderson campus. [KSNV]
✍️ Gov. Lombardo’s Reign Sets Records
The time for “yea” or “nay” has come and gone. Gov. Lombardo topped his own record, signing 87 vetoes for the latest Nevada legislative session, or one out of seven bills. Overall, “Dr. No” has signed 162 vetoes, the most for any Nevada governor in a single term. [Nevada Independent]
- Then again, we may credit him for getting the wheels rolling on regional rail, if it ever happens in Nevada. [Nevada Current]
🔮 Zoltar, Boulder City Resident
Where’s Zoltar from? Turns out — Boulder City. The animatronic fortune teller, who gained fame when he helped make Tom Hanks “Big” 37 years ago this month, is produced by Characters Unlimited, a family-owned business in Boulder City that’s welcoming the general public for tours soon. [KLAS]
