🐘 An elephant migration comes to Vegas
June 24, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
👋 Hey everyone!
After a short holiday break, we’re back with a regular, full-length edition of the newsletter.
Aside from the start of World War III, it’s been a quiet few days. Did I miss anything?

What's CITY Talking About?
🪖 Nevada’s Role in the New World Order
Our thoughts are with service members and their families affected by the ongoing escalation in the Middle East. Nellis Air Force Base is a major part of our community with frequent deployments to the region. Let’s hope the ceasefire holds 🙏 [Associated Press]
- Gov. Lombardo seems to be okay with the U.S. bombing Iran’s uranium development sites. Both Nevada senators praised the military, but want Congressional approval before further attacks. Congresswoman (and not-in-my-backyard union supporter) Dina Titus says President Trump “launched another war” that “Nevadans don’t support.” [Las Vegas Review-Journal/Nevada Independent]
POLL: Is she right? Do Nevadans support this or not? Take our poll.

⚾ A’s Pretend to Break Ground on Stadium
Lombardo and Titus joined the official groundbreaking ceremony for the A’s $1.75 billion baseball stadium, financed by a combination of public funding and mystery money. Notice the shoveling took place indoors, emphasizing the “ceremonial” part of the groundbreaking. [LV Sports Biz]
- But really, is this stadium actually happening? [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
😕 Broadacres Marketplace on ICE
Broadacres Marketplace, an outdoor hub for Hispanic culture, entertainment, shopping, and food in North Las Vegas, is temporarily closing due to the threat of ICE raids. The place has been around since 1977 and is much more than a flea market, attracting roughly 20,000 visitors each weekend. (I should know: I wrote about it once.) [KSNV]
🏳️🌈 The Fruit Loop Now Officially Historic
Nevada lawmakers designated the Fruit Loop an official historical landmark in the most recent legislative session — impressive since they couldn’t agree on much else. As Pride Month winds down, City Cast Las Vegas looks back on the legacy of the off-Strip district and what it means for the local LGBTQ+ community. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
