👮 Police call out their own captain
July 18, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🎊 We’re excited to report: our members-only tour and tasting at the Las Vegas Distillery next week is officially FULL — just like my espresso martini 😋

Any City Cast Las Vegas Neighbors who didn't sign up can still RSVP and join us for the mixer in the lounge afterwards. If you’re a member, the form is in your inbox somewhere, and will remain active through the end of today. Any questions? Shoot us an email.

What's CITY Talking About?

🎰 Tax Policy Trumps Vegas
Remember these guys acting all chummy after the election at Circa? ☝️ Now, CEO Derek Stevens says President Trump’s signature spending legislation is bad for Vegas, claiming high-volume gamblers are planning to move their vice off-shore if the full deduction on gaming losses isn’t restored. [KTNV]
📺 Public Broadcasting Funds at Risk
A bill to defund public broadcasting cleared the Senate and could pass the House by the time you read this. That’s a blow to Vegas PBS and KNPR, who rely on $7.5 million set aside for Southern Nevada. Will PBS get by on sales of Big Bird dolls? Maybe — for now. But once you leave it up to “the market,” you end up with reality shows on The Learning Channel. [Nevada Independent]
😭 Police Share Burn Book in Public
As reported (again) in yesterday’s newsletter, Henderson continues to lead the universe in police and City Council drama. Well, Metro isn’t far behind. The police officers union rented a box truck with video screens to call Capt. Landon Reyes a “morale killer” — making sure tourists on the Strip know how well the people in charge of their safety are getting along. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🚨 Brazen Robbers at Large
While police focus on the important stuff, criminals are acting like comic book villains, from a $300,000 armored truck heist to an attempt to steal weapons from a gun shop by crashing a vehicle through the front door. [KSNV]
🛣️ Do We Really Need HOV Lanes?
Last I checked, my co-workers and I weren’t carpooling together to the local factory, so maybe it’s time we got rid of HOV lanes altogether? 🤔 City Cast Las Vegas presents both sides of the debate (while the RTC takes input on local transportation matters) in the latest Friday news roundup. The discussion also covers disappearing housing assistance and the fuss over UNO at a Vegas casino. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
