😀 A new use for toxic waste

July 25, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess

🇺🇲 Hey all,

Between Theo, Ozzy, and now Hulk Hogan, this has been a bad week for my childhood.

Time moves fast and this Gen Xer appreciates where I’ve been and where I’m going. While I miss the days of drinking from the water hose and carrying a Walkman instead of a smartphone, there’s no better time than now. Every day is a gift and I love being able to share this newsletter with people of all ages, views, and backgrounds.

Let’s kick off an amazing weekend in Las Vegas ☀️ If I don’t say it enough, thanks for reading and being part of our City Cast community 🙏

What's CITY Talking About?

🚧 Come On Feel the Noise

My house is currently next to a construction site. So, in news my wife will hate, a recently passed Nevada law now allows construction crews to start work as early as 5 a.m. through the end of September. [KVVU]

  • Is the inconvenience worth it to protect construction workers from the summer heat? City Cast Las Vegas tackles the topic in today’s Friday news roundup, along with a pending battle over Nevada voter data and a new look for the Las Vegas Aviators. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

☢️ A New Use for Nuclear Waste?

UNLV is researching new technology that would repurpose toxic waste from nuclear energy and weapons for other purposes — like feeding the power grid. Sounds radiant 😁 👍 We’re still not down with Yucca Mountain. [Las Vegas Sun]

🏜️ Desert Art Installation Not Moving to Reno

Despite being an occasional magnet for graffiti, Seven Magic Mountains is here to stay in Las Vegas. Sorry Reno. [KLAS]

🃏 Do Casinos Still Accept Each Other’s Chips?

Most major casinos on the Strip no longer accept poker chips from competitors — something that used to be common to encourage buy-ins. You can still use chips between sister casinos (like two under the MGM Resorts banner, for example). [Poker News]

🤑 Sahara Drops Resort Fees

For now. The Sahara has a new “all-in rate experience” through October 31, dropping the resort fee and adding a few other perks like a room upgrade, late checkout, and a dining credit. You just have to book by Aug. 11. It’s worth noting the property already dropped resort fees for locals in another promotion. [Casino.org]

  • It’s a season of deals on the Strip as the tourism slump continues. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]
