💧 What’s in the water? Measles ☹️

🍣 Happy National Spam Musubi Day!

To celebrate the made-up holiday, get a free musubi today from noon to 2 p.m. at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. The treat is kinda like a sushi hand roll, but with grilled Spam in place of fresh fish.

What's CITY Talking About?

🤢 Measles Found in Waste Water

Waste water is full of all kinds of gross stuff — and Clark County just detected traces of the measles virus in there too. On the plus side, nobody was recently reported with the condition, but it’s a good reminder to get your kids vaccinated before the school year begins Monday. [KVVU]

  • Speaking of which … vaccine rates are down among local kindergarteners, reflecting a nationwide trend as parents seek exemptions. [KTNV]

💔 Kelly Clarkson Residency Hits Pause

Kelly Clarkson postponed the remaining summer dates of her Caesars Palace residency — for a good, but sad reason. The singer made the announcement right before her ex-husband, former manager, and father of their two children died after a three-year battle with cancer. (I saw the show two weeks ago and the singer was visibly emotional before performing a song about him.) Dates are still on for November. [Variety]

👻 Spirit Fills Furniture Store

The Ashley furniture chain closed two stores — one Downtown and another on Sahara that will promptly be taken over by a Spirit Halloween store. (I know that sounds like a joke, but it’s true.) The company is doing fine though, switching focus to its new megastore in the Southwest Valley. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🏁 What It’s Worth: A Formula 1 Ticket

Formula 1 is working hard to get on the good side of locals this year — and just released single-day tickets for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, beginning at $125, including taxes and fees 👀 Meanwhile, the state board of ethics is looking into a scandal over free F1 tickets accepted by Clark County commissioners, valued at nearly $11,000 each — so yeah, the good seats. [KLAS]

  • The investigation is just one part of the latest Friday news roundup. City Cast Las Vegas also discusses Elon Musk’s push to bring his Vegas Loop above ground and a congressman blocked from entering an ICE detention center. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🐶 Go on a Doggie Daycation

I absolutely love this 🥹 The Animal Foundation is seeking volunteers for its Foster Field Trip Summer Sendoff Challenge with a goal to get 500 dogs out of the shelter and into the fresh air for a “daycation” like a walk on Mt. Charleston, dinner on a pet-friendly patio, or simply some time on the couch in a cozy, air-conditioned home. If you can’t commit to being a full-time foster, but have a day to spare, this is a perfect opportunity to share some happiness with a new friend 🙏 [KSNV]
