🌝 Welcome to Day Two of Night Week.
And here’s something else you can do after dark: See a Las Vegas Aces game 🏀 So we’re giving a shoutout to Girls on the Run Las Vegas, a nonprofit hosting a special night out to celebrate inner strength and inspiration among girls at Michelob Ultra Arena. Cheer on the Aces against the Atlanta Dream one week from tonight on August 19.

What's CITY Talking About?
🙏 ICE Says Trust Us: No Raids in Schools
A new school year is underway and CCSD superintendent Jhone Ebert says she was assured by federal officials that ICE immigration raids won’t take place on school grounds. For the record, there isn’t a Nevada law that prevents it. [Nevada Independent]
- This comes as Gov. Lombardo approves the use of the Nevada National Guard to assist in federal immigration enforcement. [KLAS]
🤧 FBI Agent Socially Distanced From Leadership Role
A legal battle is brewing after Spencer Evans was fired as the agent in charge of the Las Vegas FBI office. His lawyer says Evans was terminated with “no due process” by director Kash Patel for following the Department of Justice’s own COVID-19 protocols during the pandemic. Fun twist: Evans is being honored for his record at a law enforcement awards gala later this month. [KSNV]
🍜 Chinatown: The new Arts District?
We’re in the early stages of a neighborhood-wide redevelopment of Chinatown that includes new trees, wider sidewalks, and street art, which is starting to appear in murals sponsored by local businesses. Some say it's a way to compete with the Downtown Arts District — but I’ll be happy if both neighborhoods just add more parking 🚘 [KVVU]
👊 UFC Drops Pay-Per-View Model
The only catch: you have to sign up for Paramount+ 📺 The Vegas-based fight organization signed a new $1.1 billion deal with the streaming service to air all events over the next seven years with some simulcast on CBS. [ESPN]
- The UFC is also expanding the Apex at company headquarters, changing it from an intimate event space and production studio to a full-sized arena to accommodate up to 10,000 additional spectators. [LVSportsBiz]

All this talk got us thinking: Does Las Vegas need a “night mayor” to run our city’s business after hours?

The idea isn’t so far-fetched. It’s actually a real position in other cities, and someone with the gig talked to City Cast Las Vegas about what it's all about — and even shared an idea for solving the current noise debate in the Downtown Arts District. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
