What's CITY Talking About?
🛫 Suspected Child Sex Predator Takes Flight
A senior Israeli cybersecurity official was one of eight suspects — including (side note) a local pastor — busted on charges of soliciting sex from a decoy pretending to be a 15 year old girl. Creepy, right? He posted bail and left the country the next day, raising questions about fairness in our local legal system. [KLAS/Nevada Independent]
- City Cast Las Vegas breaks down the case — how it played out, and if any special treatment was granted — in the latest Friday news roundup. The episode also looks at the state of home ownership in Vegas and if it’s “too late now to say sorry” for a Justin Bieber imposter who pulled a fast one at the Wynn. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🚨 Father of NBA Star Charged in Stabbing
It all began at a park near Buffalo and Charleston when a car door opened and hit another vehicle next to it. A confrontation over the “door ding” turned into a fight with one person stabbed and taken to the hospital. As it turns out, the 57-year-old charged in the attack, Quenton Brown, is the father of NBA star Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics. Lawyer up now, fellas. [KSNV]
🏁 F1 Sues Famously Large Gift Shop
We’re used to seeing local businesses sue Formula 1, but now it’s the other way around. The racing giant has filed suit against Bonanza, claiming the “world’s largest gift shop” and sister store Crazy Ely tried to sell counterfeit F1 merch during the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2023. [Sports Illustrated]
- Still, F1 is trying hard to win over locals this year. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🏡 Vegas Homes Used in Online Scams
Beware yet another scam in Vegas. The Nevada Attorney General’s office says fake rental listings are showing up on sites like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist, hoping to entice victims with promises of below-market rates. The scammers typically insist on a deposit via Venmo or Zelle before a would-be renter can even view the property in person. [KTNV]
