👮 Oops, police destroy wrong house
September 2, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🏖️ Welcome back from a long holiday weekend …
You may have noticed our absence from your inbox yesterday. That’s because I was laborin’ on margaritas by the pool 🍹
If you’re a City Cast Las Vegas Neighbor, your exclusive, members-only, weekly events guide arrives a day later than usual. Look for it this afternoon 👀

What's CITY Talking About?
👮 Police Raid n' Wreck Wrong House
A woman watched a police SWAT raid on her house unfold through her home security app — and rushed home to find $25,000 worth of damage after police knocked down the front door, tore off the garage door, and shot holes in the wall while trying to take out security cameras. As it turns out, Metro was looking for a trafficking suspect who hadn’t lived there in more than five years. The department refused to cover any damages — at least until they were called out in the local news 🤨 [KVVU]
💸 Surge Pricing Is Real and It’s on the Strip
The Review-Journal sent a few interns to Strip resort shops to investigate “surge pricing” that frequently changes the cost of beer, sunscreen, and other items by algorithms based on day, time, and foot traffic. (To be honest, if I had City Cast interns, I’d send them off to buy beer too.) They found that not all stores used surge pricing — and those that did weren't following any predictable patterns. 🌎 Sphere Economics
Is the Sphere profitable? If you’re the company that runs it, the future is hazy at best 🎱 If you’re an act like the Backstreet Boys, you make $4 million a night — a nice haul without having to worry about the travel expenses that come with a tour. A one-time fee of $7 million or so covers the extensive graphics used in the performance. [TMZ]

⚖️ Perez Hilton Fights Back Against Blake Lively
Perez Hilton is due back in court today. Citing a Nevada law, the Vegas-based celebrity blogger is fighting a subpoena by Hollywood actress Blake Lively, who’s apparently targeting media figures in her ongoing legal battle against a filmmaker she didn’t get along with. (Daily reminder: free speech is important.) [KSNV/KLAS]

Where Is It?

Say hello to Gort, the humanoid robot who appeared in the 1951 film “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” Interesting choice for a statue.
