😱 You decide: the scariest thing in Vegas
October 27, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🎃 It’s Halloween week! And you know what that means …
59 days until Christmas 🎄

Lowe’s may have moved on, but City Cast hasn’t. We still believe in Halloween 🔪🩸 So read on to vote for the scariest, spookiest thing in Las Vegas 👀

What's CITY Talking About
😢 Eastside Cannery to Be Demolished
Goodbye, Eastside Cannery. We hardly knew you — or remembered you, since the casino has been closed since the pandemic. The site will probably be used for a future residential development. [KSNV]
🚬 False Fees for Smoking at the Rio?
The Better Business Bureau has received nearly 30 complaints against the Rio over smoking charges this year. One woman who insists she doesn't smoke at all (and even works as an anti-smoking health advocate) had a $350 fee (plus tax 😳) added to her bill. She's questioning the accuracy of the sensors that monitor rooms. [KLAS]
- On the bright side, the Rio is getting a few other things right under new ownership. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🖥️ The DMV Shifts Services Online
The Nevada DMV is switching things up. Any services connected to vehicle transactions — registrations, titles, moving permits — will now begin online and ideally help you avoid an in-person visit altogether. [KTNV]
🐮 Where’s the Beef (Coming From)?
Nevada ranchers and Democratic senators are taking issue with the Trump administration’s plan to import more beef from Argentina — an idea drafted to help the South American country’s economy and lower prices here in the United States. Nevada has more than 1,100 cattle ranches.
- I have a few road trips in mind to find restaurants with local beef 😋 [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]
