What's CITY Talking About
🍎 SNAP Benefits Run Out Tomorrow
Funding for SNAP benefits will expire tomorrow and Nevada is one of nearly two dozen states suing the federal government over it. In the meantime, the state says $38 million in combined contingency funds and leftover stimulus from the pandemic will help food banks through the end of November. The Nevada Guard will aid in food distribution. [KOLO]

☢️ Nevada Democrats Resist Trump’s Explosive Idea
Watching atomic bombs detonate in the Nevada desert used to be a spectator sport in Las Vegas — and while bringing the idea back would be great for tourism, not everyone’s on board. Nevada Democrats are pledging to fight President Trump’s plan to resume testing of nuclear weapons. The Nevada National Security Site, where most of this stuff took place decades ago, hasn’t tested nuclear firepower since 1992 and would need at least 36 months to get the operation back rolling again. 💰 Casino CEO: “Shame On Us” for High Prices
MGM Resorts’ CEO appears to have reached the “acceptance” phase in the seven stages of greed, admitting that a backlash to high prices is at least partly responsible for this year’s tourism slump. Bill Hornbuckle specifically said “shame on us,” referring to a $12 Starbucks coffee at budget-minded properties like the Excalibur. [KSNV]
- It’s still bad: September visitation was down nearly 9 percent from the same time last year and resort companies are making less revenue per hotel room. [KLAS]
🏁 Ferraro’s Drops F1 Lawsuit
Legal action between Ferraro’s and entities connected to the Las Vegas Grand Prix appears to have crossed the finish line. Founder Gino Ferraro says the two sides settled out of court. The long-running Italian restaurant was among several off-Strip businesses that complained of losing customers during construction of the F1 track. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
