🏁 The countdown is on: 10 days until the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

And Formula 1 is already making sure you can’t see it from pedestrian bridges.

What's CITY Talking About
🗳️ All Roads Lead to Washington
The House is expected to vote today on a plan to fund and reopen the government — but only through Jan. 30, when we can go through this all over again 🤡 Which Nevadans are on board?
- Rep. Susie Lee 🤔
- Rep. Dina Titus ❌
- Rep. Steven Horsford 🤔
- Rep. Mark Amodei ✅ (He’s Northern.)
Sen. Jacky Rosen felt at least some degree of pressure from the LVCVA and other travel authorities before joining fellow Democrat Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto to support the GOP plan. [Nevada Current]
🤨 Unlucky in Hendertucky
The alleged misconduct by Henderson City Council member Carrie Cox goes beyond the mere act of hiding behind a curtain to secretly record her colleagues. According to an arrest report, Cox is accused of running an illegal daycare operation, possibly committing tax evasion, misusing official stationery as a character witness for someone facing discipline by a nursing board, exchanging favors with a person who needed permits, and leaking confidential police information to the media. And back to the recording — Cox suggested she might’ve been hacked when questioned about it by police. [KTNV]
🩷 Barbie-Themed Meals and Wheels
AREA15 continues to expand with the addition of the Malibu Barbie Café, testing a tolerance for experiential dining and the limits of pink interior design. A roller rink is included. [KLAS]
🍽️ All-You-Can-Eat … In a Week
Don’t wait until Thanksgiving for an all-you-can-eat meal. Buffets are here to stay and City Cast Las Vegas talked to a local food writer and editor who dined at each and every one on the Strip in less than a week. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Las Vegas Chatter
Let’s talk about two things we can all agree on: politics and sports 🫣

🗳️ First up: thoughts on Nevada’s Democratic U.S. senators, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, crossing party lines to help reopen the government.
It was the flight cancellations that did it. That was a bridge too far for the Nevada resort industry.
— Carolyn S.
They need to be thanked for having the courage to do the right thing for the American people.
— Cheryl E.
These so-called Democrats need to be primaried and replaced with progressives.
— William V.Z.
Both senators caved to a lawless administration at a time when public opinion was in their favor. Their vote will only empower Trump and his sycophants.
— Charles G.
I have never voted for a Republican in my life, but if these two aren't primaried, I will be voting Republican. Why not? They vote like they are Republicans!
— Juanita F.
Both our Senators chose the people of Nevada over their party, they didn't fold … This was the compassionate choice to fund the SNAP program … They made the right choice for the TSA agents and air traffic controllers as well. Tourism is our city's lifeblood, and they need to get paid.
— Lisa R.
I work for the government and haven’t made money for almost seven weeks. Do you really think they “caved”? This was not a budget. They were passing an extension of funding the government at current levels. How come the prior administration did not extend health care subsidies?
— Melissa V.
Since Nevada is a purple state, I understand their decision, but I don't agree with them.
— Gail S.
I would vote for an actual dumpster fire before I vote for these two again.
— Jocelyn J.
I’m a retired air traffic controller … My air traffic control friends will start getting paid again. My SNAP friends will be able to buy groceries. Government workers who lost their jobs during this shutdown will get rehired … But after stepping back and seeing the bigger picture, I have to admit — the Democrats really dropped the ball. By folding when they did, the Dems gave up leverage they didn’t have to, without getting anything in return.
— Will B.
🏈 Readers also had picks for local sports bars for NFL fans.
The Vegas chapter of the LA Rams fan club meets for every game at Twin Peaks in Henderson on Eastern.
— Gabe G.
I’m pretty sure Frankie’s Uptown in Downtown Summerlin is a Steeler’s bar. They also have amazing food and cocktails.
— Kristie M.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are HUGE here, from the annual gathering in Laughlin to game-day events at PT's Place on S. Decatur.
— Vicki N.
