🎄 A winter holiday guide to Vegas

November 18, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess

😀 Hi. I’m back! Big thanks to Adrian González for filling in the past few days. Here are a few things I didn’t see while on my too-short vacation:

  • Rain
  • Airport delays
  • Northern Lights
  • A perfect score when taking the latest news quiz. (I got question #5 wrong. Nice work, Adrian.)

On the other hand, I mastered “slow-drip Sundays” … mimosas for brunch, wine in the afternoon, beer at the airport, and a mini-bottle of tequila and O.J. in economy 🛫

What's CITY Talking About

🚨 Child Caught in Road Rage Gunfire

The 22-year-old man arrested in a road rage incident that killed an 11-year-old boy says he wasn’t aware a child was in the backseat when he fired a gun into another driver’s car — as if it would be okay otherwise. [KSNV]

💣 Motive Unclear in Piero’s Explosion

Bond was set at $100,000 for a suspect accused of setting off a bomb by the front door of Piero’s, a restaurant that serves equal amounts of history and osso buco near the Convention Center. I know this sounds like something the mob would do, but like it or not, those days are over. (We think.) [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

✍️ Special Sesh Crawls Forward

Nevada’s special session drags into an unexpected sixth day with legislation on crime, film tax credits, and school zone safety alive but unresolved. Bills involving cybersecurity, lawmaker privacy, and SNAP benefits, head to the governor’s desk for his signature — or veto. [KVVU/Nevada Independent]

  • Voting by Zoom? It's being allowed for vacationing lawmakers, which some argue sets a bad precedent. (Cabo is nice this time of year.) [KTVN]
  • We get a lot of feedback from readers who want to see both sides of the political spectrum represented. If you haven’t done so already, check out our City Cast Las Vegas episode on Nevada’s special session, featuring two guests with differing views who skipped the same old talking points in favor of a smart, civil discussion on our state’s lawmaking process 👍 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🚰 Colorado River Negotiations Stall

If Las Vegas runs out of water, blame all those golf courses in St. George ⛳ Arizona’s governor is calling out Utah and other upstream states for showing little urgency and dragging out a compromise on how to share the Colorado River. [St. George News]

  • City Cast Las Vegas examines why a deadline for an agreement to split up the water supply came and went with little progress — and what it means for Las Vegas. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
