🚨 Was a Deadly Car Crash Intentional?

Car crashes are so common — even deadly ones, unfortunately — that we rarely mention them in the newsletter. However, a recent 12-car collision that killed two people has a tragic twist: a rare murder charge (as opposed to manslaughter) since the DA believes a 19-year-old driver intentionally caused it. Evidence shows the suspect never even attempted to hit the brakes, although prosecutors will need to prove malice for a guilty verdict. [KVVU]

🧑‍🎓 More Students Are Finishing High School

The Nevada Department of Education says statewide graduation rates are up nearly 4%. The bad news? That’s still only 85% of students receiving diplomas. [KLAS]

😯 Governor’s Race a Tossup

A new poll of Nevada voters shows our electorate is more divided than ever. Next year’s gubernatorial election is a tie — as of right now, anyway.

  • Gov. Joe Lombardo (R) 41%
  • Aaron Ford (D) 41%
  • Undecided 18%

Lombardo has an eight-point edge among independents, which could be the key to victory. [KLAS]

✍️ Special Sesh: Winner and Losers

Did you gloss over all my news blurbs about the Nevada legislature's weeklong special session? I know. Some of this stuff is wonky (a good word to describe something that’s smart and boring at the same time). But don’t fret! City Cast Las Vegas is making politics fun again — or at least more fun than it’s been lately — with a rundown of the winners and losers in Carson City last week. Think of it as your cheat sheet to knowing more about the laws of the land and what to expect from here. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
