💵 Legal betting on elections?
December 1, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🤠 Welcome back from a long holiday weekend. Hope you got enough turkey!

What's CITY Talking About
💰 Betting on Elections? Not So Fast.
A federal judge blocked Kalshi and other financial exchange platforms from offering prediction contracts in Nevada, which allow wagers on anything and everything, from politics to entertainment. The casino industry is a fierce opponent, arguing that predictions are a form of unregulated gambling and not merely a financial product. [Nevada Independent/iGaming Business]
🥴 Wait … Another Special Session?
Don’t rule it out. Nevada lawmakers are planning to draft legislation next year on e-bikes and scooters — which you may have noticed, are zipping around everywhere now. The legislature meets again in 2027, but a special session could address the matter earlier. [KVVU]

🪴 Clock Ticking for Suspect Hemp Shops
Shops in tourist areas that sell synthetic THC or intoxicating hemp products (with just enough THC to legally pass without being classified as marijuana) could close up in Las Vegas over the next year. New federal regulations were approved to crack down on those shady business practices — and help out confused shoppers who just want to get high at a real Vegas dispensary. [Las Vegas Sun]
🍜 Chinatown Prepares To Reinvent Itself
Las Vegas is known for easy and abundant parking — except in Chinatown. That’s one of the problems being addressed in an evolving redevelopment plan for the neighborhood, which includes repaving roads and widening sidewalks. There's also discussion of adding RTC stops at individual malls and a trolley or "microbus" shuttle service between Chinatown and the Strip. [KVVU]
