🔮 Looking ahead: the future of Vegas

December 17, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess

📬 Good morning!

Today is the sorta official deadline for First Class mail to (maybe) arrive by Christmas. Tomorrow is the deadline for Priority Mail.

I’m actually in line at the post office right now, writing this newsletter on my phone while holding a stack of packages in the other hand. Please excuse any typos.

What's CITY Talking About

🚨 Decades in Jail for Killing Police Chief Bicyclist

Two men guilty of murder were handed life sentences for intentionally running down and killing a bicyclist with a stolen car. The victim turned out to be a retired police chief. The convicts, both teenagers at the time, did their case no favors by recording the collision on video, laughing as it happened. [KTNV]

🏁 Learning To Live With F1

The interest level seems to drop each year, but negotiations are underway to extend the presence of Formula 1 racing in Las Vegas — possibly to 2037 😳 With that level of commitment, F1 is expected to make infrastructure improvements in and around the Las Vegas Grand Prix circuit, while dropping the temporary bridge over Koval and Flamingo in favor of something less clunky and congested. 🪧 Businesses Revolt Against Paid Parking

In these divisive times, there’s one thing that can bring Las Vegans together: a mutual resentment of paid parking. Arts District residents and business owners are now fighting back against the city’s expansion and price hike of paid parking in the neighborhood. So I joined the latest episode of City Cast Las Vegas, along with Taverna Costera owner Jeff Hwang, to discuss the toll of parking fees on local independent businesses — and why we could see more paid parking beyond tourist areas. 🏆 NBA Cup Eyes Vegas Exit

Did you watch last night’s Emirates NBA Cup final between the Spurs and Knicks at the T-Mobile Arena? If you said, “Huh?”... you’re not alone. After three seasons, the in-season tournament finals could leave Vegas over a lack of audience enthusiasm. [ESPN]
