🧨 Fireworks will look different this year

December 22, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess

❄️ Hey all! December is loaded with holidays: Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s Eve, Toyotathon …

But we have one more to tell you about. Read on for more 👇

What's CITY Talking About

🚧 A Blueprint to Perfect Chinatown

A 50-page “blueprint” for the redevelopment of Chinatown is setting the stage for a new era of projects in the neighborhood. We’ll see more fun stuff like festivals and night markets, plus sidewalk, road, and pedestrian improvements. But all I really want for Christmas is … more parking. Please and thank you 🙏 [KVVU]

💧Will Trump Split Up the Colorado River?

We can’t survive without water — but despite this important fun fact, negotiations between Nevada and six other states on how to divide the Colorado River are deadlocked with a deadline less than 60 days away. The Trump administration is threatening to get involved, saying states should replace their negotiators. Federal intervention on splitting the water rights would likely be challenged, setting off a potential Supreme Court showdown. [Politico]

🎰 Casino Resort Changes Name … To Old Name

The JW Marriott Las Vegas and Rampart Casino, which operate together, will be unified under one name in 2026: The Resort at Summerlin — which is actually what the hotel used to go by when it opened in 1999. The property is wrapping up a $75 million renovation, plans to keep the JW Marriott partnership, and continues to have one thing most Vegas hotels don’t: grass 🌱 [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🥂 Party of 10 For New Year’s Eve

The New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration on the Strip, confidently named “America’s Party 2026” (bravo for the bravado 👏), is up to 10 resorts participating with the Palms joining in this year. Another big change — the addition of drones. The fun also includes a countdown clock on the Sphere and a rock soundtrack on KOMP 92.3 and KXPT 97.1. [KLAS]
