🎁 The gift of rain for Christmas?
December 23, 2025 · — Rob Kachelriess
🎁 It’s just two days until Christmas, when children gather around the tree and spend the day in their pajamas — instead of wearing them to school.
If you’ve run out of time to find the perfect gift, nothing says “you matter to me” quite like a Venmo text alert 💰

What's CITY Talking About
☂️ Dreaming of a Wet Christmas
Santa’s bringing the gift of a flash flood warning to Las Vegas this week. Most of the rain is expected on Christmas Eve, although it could be a soggy Christmas morning as well. Look out for heavy snow on the Spring Mountains too. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🏰 Scotty’s Castle Reopens for Tours
Scotty’s Castle is reclaiming its reputation as one of Death Valley’s most intriguing — and quirky — travel destinations with Sunday tours by the National Park Service scheduled from January to March. The Spanish colonial-style retreat closed more than a decade ago after flooding (and a fire a few years later didn’t help). [KSNV]
📊 Vegas By the Numbers
Political pollster Nate Silver looked at the 2025 Vegas downtown, using some charts and graphs to put things into perspective. Hotel visitation this year was nearly down to 2010 post-recession levels and revenue from most casino staples (blackjack, craps, etc.) dropped while baccarat bucked the trend. And sports betting on mobile phones is outpacing in-person windows … by a lot. [Silver Bulletin]
🔮 A New Future for City Cast Las Vegas
For the first (and last? 😢) time, all five members of the City Cast Las Vegas editorial team — co-hosts Dayvid Figler and Sarah Lohman, outgoing executive producer Sonja Cho Swanson, newly promoted executive producer Layla Muhammad (congrats!!! 👏), and me, Rob Kachelriess — got on mic together to share our hopes and predictions for Las Vegas in 2026. We call it a virtual vision board for the new year, although Dayvid swears he did some arts n’ crafts and made a real one 🧑🎨 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
