👋 Hey there,

According to Travel + Leisure, the most romantic place in Nevada is … Tonopah 🤔

My vote was for Crazy Horse 3.

What's CITY Talking About

🚌 Rise n’ Shine Sleepy Teens!

After weighing feedback from parents, the Clark County School District revamped start times for the upcoming school year. In the spirit of CliffsNotes (which got me through school), here’s the gist: Elementary students get to start a little later, high schoolers get to start a lot later, and those in middle school … sorry, most of you will start a half hour earlier. [Nevada Independent]

  • City Cast Las Vegas looks at the pros and cons of the new start times, plus Nevada’s influence on ICE funding and thoughts on the new Sphere in the latest Friday news roundup. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🧐 Does the Vegas Loop Owe Nevada a New Tax?

Now that the Vegas Loop is taking its Tesla shuttles above ground to the airport, does the Boring Company owe Nevada the same 3% excise tax that regular taxis pay? It’s a topic of debate among Nevada playmakers, who also have questions about safety and environmental violations. [KLAS/Nevada Current]

  • City Cast Las Vegas helped bring those issues to light here and there. [Hey Las Vegas ✍️]

👷 North Las Vegas Demolition Underway

It’s not as fun as a classic Strip implosion, but North Las Vegas is bringing out some heavy equipment to tear down the old City Hall building. It’s the first step towards redeveloping the land for new residential, commercial, and government space. [KVVU]

🎰 A New Bally’s Resort? Not So Fast ⏱️

The new Bally’s was supposed to open alongside the A’s baseball stadium in a magical fantasy-fueled year we call 2028. Well, Bally’s isn’t even pretending anymore, saying the project won’t be done until the end of 2030 and the cost has now climbed to $1.19 billion. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🇨🇦 Vegas to Canada: “We’ll Take Your Money”

International tourism is so low right now, Circa, The D, and Golden Gate will now accept Canadian dollars in equal value to American dollars. I’m not sure if the math really works out for our friendly Canucks, but the policy is good regardless of daily exchange rate fluctuations. [KSNV]
