What's CITY Talking About
📚 Charter School Under Investigation
Nevada Prep Charter School will cease operations at the end of the school year, following a report by state authorities that identified financial mismanagement, prompting a vote against renewing the school’s license. [KLAS]
- City Cast Las Vegas looks at the events surrounding the school’s pending closure, plus a movement that’s trying to save the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center and the Galleria's dramatic revamp in the latest Friday news roundup. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🎰 A Bad Year for Vegas Tourism
The numbers are in — and it’s not looking good for Vegas. Tourism was down 7.5% in 2025 compared to the year before. That’s still nearly 39 million people, although December’s year-to-year drop was even worse at more than 9%. The good news — expo business is expected to be up in 2026. [KSNV]
🏒 Biggest Game Yet For Golden Knights
At least when it comes to potential attendance. The Dallas Stars are welcoming the Vegas Golden Knights to play hockey at AT&T Stadium — which holds 80,000 fans during football games – for the Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series. You have until 2027 to get tickets and plan a road trip. [KLAS]

Today's Big Picture

Today marks 25 years since President Clinton signed the Timbisha Shoshone Homeland Act, transferring nearly 7,800 acres of federal land back to Native Americans, including more than 300 acres at Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park. The general public is invited to a celebration march this morning (beginning at 9:30 a.m.) at 900 Indian Village Road, followed by a talk and cake at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. [KLAS]
- An organizer told City Cast Las Vegas that a planned ribbon cutting for an updated version of the Timbisha Shoshone exhibit at the Visitor Center was cancelled by the Department of the Interior.
- The Trump administration is rejecting certain language in the exhibit, including “This is our homeland.” [Nevada Current]
- This controversy comes as Death Valley anticipates a spring boom in tourism, thanks to a possible once-in-a-decade superbloom of wildflowers and the reopening of Scotty’s Castle for limited private tours. [Associated Press]
- Meanwhile, the search is on for the driver of a white Toyota Tacoma, who park rangers accuse of illegal off-roading and destroying endangered desert plants. [USA Today]
