📉 What Nevada voters think of Trump

February 4, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess

🌼 Welcome to wildflower season!

Maybe 🤞

We shared our hopes for a rare Death Valley superbloom in Monday’s episode of City Cast Las Vegas — and the outlook is looking good 😁

What's CITY Talking About

📚 From Class President to Assault Charges

Vaughn Griffith appeared to be a model student — a "Sportsman of the Year” and class president at Summerlin’s Alexander Dawson School — but now, he’s facing criminal charges. The 15-year-old was among a group of eighth graders accused of sexually assaulting another boy on a school trip to Costa Rica — and filming it too, which doesn’t help his case. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🤒 Biolab Made People Sicky and Icky

At least two people became "deathly ill” and couldn’t get out of bed after entering a garage that police raided over the weekend as an illegal biolab. The property smelled like a hospital, but “not like a clean hospital” 🤢 [KLAS]

⏳ Big Game Countdown

Vegas bettors are choosing between the Seahawks and Patriots at sportsbooks this week. Meanwhile, I’m picking a party and planning a Super Bowl drinking game 🥃 Do a shot every time:

  • A touchdown is scored
  • Gatorade makes an appearance
  • Bad Bunny references ICE
  • Your party runs out of ice
  • Somebody giggles when the Raiders are mentioned

Okay, maybe I’m being a little hard on the home team, but there’s a chance to rebuild this year 🏈 City Cast Las Vegas looks at how the Raiders can really, truly, possibly turn things around next season — or at least not be the worst team in the NFL 👍 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Once we get through the midterms this year, all eyes will be on the next presidential election in 2028 — and the Silver State could play a major role in choosing our next commander in chief. Nevada is one of 12 states in contention for hosting the Democratic Party’s first primary in the next presidential election season. The working plan is to have four states from different regions host primaries early, and New Mexico is Nevada’s only competition in the west. [NBC News]

  • Influential political group Latino Victory endorsed Nevada to go first. [CBS News]
  • Nevada is already attracting attention from potential contenders like Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona. [Nevada Independent]
  • Meanwhile, we’re still politically purple. After giving its electoral votes to President Trump in 2024, Nevada is now one of 39 states with a majority disapproving of the president’s job performance. Trump’s net approval among Nevadans is -17.2% (and -7.6% among Nevadans who voted in 2024). Yes, those dashes mean “negative.” [The Economist]
  • The Trump administration could get back on Nevada’s good side by keeping nuclear waste away from Yucca Mountain — and alternatives are actively being explored. [Nevada Current]
  • Fake electors who tried to swing Nevada for Trump in 2020 are back in court. [KTNV]
  • The Nevada Attorney General's Office is also in court, fending off a lawsuit by the Department of Justice demanding custody of our state’s voter rolls. [Las Vegas Sun]

Las Vegas Chatter

Our readers have thoughts on ICE crackdowns in the Twin Cities — and here in Las Vegas, where enforcement is less publicized.

People are very passionate about the topic of illegal immigration, but I wonder, how does it affect them personally? Those who are here illegally and commit crimes should be deported. For the others, it honestly doesn't bother me.

— Nancy H.

The president said the situation as a whole has been tragic, from the first shooting to this second one. At what point are these protesters gonna be held accountable for their actions?

— John E.

A man was executed in the street by unaccountable federal agents. What a disgusting framing to downplay it and call it “aggressive federal activity.”

— Peter G.

I am greatly opposed to ICE being in Nevada and Metro Police working with them to arrest, detain, and deport any person living here without due process. We have a very large immigration population and they should feel safe. They contribute to businesses here and pay tax dollars we should appreciate.

— Susan H.

✨ On a lighter note, one reader had praise for what he calls an expanding “City Cast Las Vegas Universe.”

First Ray Delahanty of YouTube urbanism, then Lauren Weedman from “Hacks,” and now Ed Zitron of AI hating? It’s eerie how much you share my same tastes. These guests are people I already followed independently. Well done!

— John G.

🍔 And yes, let’s address the peanut butter, jelly, bacon, and ice cream burger I tried at The Chair in Lake Havasu City.

I’ve had it and it’s fantastic! That place knows how to make a great burger.

— Jason C.

What is ice cream, but cheese not persisting?

— Harley W.

The combo sounds a little weird but I really want to try it. Maybe it just needs a little ketchup?

— Michael G.

🥯 Jeff’s Bagel Run is now open near Eastern and Serene — and giving away a free bagel and spread to everyone today and tomorrow.

I think a “spread” is cream cheese 🤔
