📉 How Low Can the Economy Go?

Nevada sportsbooks saw $133.8 million in Super Bowl wagers. Sounds like a lot, right? But that’s actually the lowest in 10 years. Don’t cry for the bookies. They still made close to $10 million. [KSNV]

• The biggest loser? Furniture kingpin Jim McIngvale (or “Mattress Mack”) who came up short betting $2 million at Caesars Sportsbook. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
• The growth of sports betting in other states and prediction markets is taking a bite out of the industry. Kalshi, still operating in Nevada while appealing a court-ordered ban, took in $871 million nationwide on the Super Bowl. [Nevada Independent]
• World Wrestling Entertainment gambled on Vegas by bringing WrestleMania back for the second year in a row. There are roughly 37,000 tickets distributed (including comps) for each of the two April dates at Allegiant Stadium, compared to around 45,000 this far out in 2025. High prices and low tourism are blamed for the soft numbers. [Post Wrestling]
• Nevada’s real spectator sport — pot smoking — is downtrending too. Regulated cannabis sales in 2025 were $758 million, a drop of nearly 9% from the previous year. Lower prices are a factor as legal dispensaries compete with a resilient black market. [KLAS]

Galentine’s Day isn’t a real holiday by any means, but it semi-officially falls on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. But why stop there? 👯 How Did Galentine’s Day Begin?

Much in the same way Festivus was a plotline on “Seinfeld” that grew into something bigger in the real world — share your airing of grievances with us anytime — the origins of Galentine’s Day are grounded in another popular sitcom. Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope came up with it on an episode of “Parks and Recreation,” bringing ladies together to celebrate without boyfriends or husbands.
