🥟 Dim sum deals for Lunar New Year
February 17, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess
🫡 Let’s begin with a salute to Chet Buchanan, who’s leaving 98.5 KLUC radio after 25 years in Las Vegas radio.
Chet is one of the good guys — always a gentleman in person and a public servant who’s done amazing work for the community, braving the winter weather for days at a time during his annual holiday toy drive 🧸

What's CITY Talking About
🚰 Colorado River Negotiations Run Dry
Time’s up ⌛ Seven states that rely on the Colorado River failed to reach an agreement by Saturday’s deadline for how to divide water use beyond 2026. (Don’t blame us. Nevada uses less than 2% and is committed to cutting 17% more.) Next up: federal intervention and years of lawsuits. Probably. [KTNV]
👍 North Las Vegas: Not as Bad As it Used to Be
Murder, assault, rape, robbery, burglary, and auto theft are all down in North Las Vegas 🥳 Shoplifting is up (so you’ll still see deodorant locked up at Walmart). North Las Vegas Police are also leaning heavily into technology, including license plate readers and yes, of course, drones. [KSNV]
🌹 Flowers Feel the Power of Tariffs
Local florists report soft sales — even for Valentine’s Day — due to tariffs spiking prices on imported flowers, including roses from South America. Making things worse … trade shows and other big events are spending less on floral displays due to the drop in Vegas tourism. [KSNV]
💸 Paid Parking at an Outlet Mall
The Las Vegas South Premium Outlets has introduced paid parking, but only for a dozen “up front” spaces. Still: OUTRAGE ‼️ I actually noticed this weeks ago —- since I can smell the stench of paid parking — but at least 2,488 spaces remain free. [KLAS]
- Maybe it’s time to skip the national chains and spend more time at local mom n’ pop businesses? City Cast Las Vegas shares independent shopping alternatives to big box retailers. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
