💸 Why auto insurance is pricey in Nevada

February 26, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess

⏱️ Good morning!

Flavor Flav’s Vegas party invitation to the gold-winning U.S. women’s hockey team has now been extended to all female medalists in the Olympics and Paralympics with Circa, Alaska Airlines, and others getting on board.

Maybe this is how we boost Vegas tourism 🤔

Today's Big Picture

🖥️ Auto Insurance, Health Insurance, It All Stinks in Nevada

Nevada lawmakers are weighing options — either by introducing new laws or modifying existing ones — to curb auto insurance costs in the state, which rose 13% last year.

I’m a little confused as to why prices are going up. Nevadans are struggling while (insurance companies) are making billions of dollars.
Elaine Marzola, Nevada Assemblymember (D)

As we've discussed before, some experts blame the prices on frequent collisions due to “riskier driving behavior” and lingering supply chain disruptions that date back to the pandemic and make repairs more expensive. [Nevada Current]

  • When it comes to auto insurance, Nevada is ranked 61% higher than the national average. [beinsure]
  • Health care insurance is in rough shape too. State workers are vowing a “mass exodus” over premiums, which are skyrocketing this year — although by how much is uncertain. [Nevada Independent]
  • The Nevada Police Union isn’t happy either. Premiums are expected to double in a benefits program that’s on track to be insolvent by 2028. [KOLO]
  • About 10% of the 104,286 people who signed up for Nevada Health Link (Affordable Care Act) plans enrolled in the new public option. [Nevada Appeal]

Southern Nevada's water supply meets or exceeds all state andfederal drinking water standards. However, the taste of tap water may not appeal to you. Infuse a glass with lemon slices, use a filter or chill a large carafe in the refrigerator. Learn more ways to enhance the taste at snwa.com.

🖥️ Did Wynn Pay Cyberattack Ransom?

For most of us, Feb. 23 was just another Monday. For the Wynn, it was a deadline to pay a bitcoin ransom after computer hackers stole employee information. The Wynn admitted there was a cybersecurity incident, but customers weren’t affected and “the stolen data has been deleted” without confirming a ransom was paid — leaving us to draw our own conclusions 🤔 [KLAS]

🎸 Metallica. Sphere. Confirmed.

After lots of chatter and speculation, it’s official — Metallica kicks off a Vegas residency this October to seek and destroy the Sphere. The band is promising to limit setlist repetition. That's cute. They think we can afford to go multiple nights. [Variety]

⚽ Las Vegas, the New Home of Walking Soccer

If pickleball is too strenuous, "walking soccer" might be more your speed 👍 The sport is like regular soccer, but without the annoyance of running. (Not sure if you can hold a beer can while participating. I’ll ask about that.) And since Vegas now loves any and every sport, the U.S. Walking Soccer Association plans to have its first headquarters here. [KSNV]
