Today's Big Picture

🪖 Nevada Reacts to the Attack on Iran

Using the president’s own words, but not a declaration by Congress, the U.S. joined Israel in going to war with Iran, killing the ayatollah and other top leaders via airstrikes. As the operation continues and American lives are lost, we hope to see our service members, including any from Nellis Air Force Base, out of harm’s way soon. [Associated Press]

What's CITY Talking About

🎰 Will the Golden Nugget Buy Caesars Palace?

Maybe. Kinda. Golden Nugget boss Tilman Fertitta — who dropped plans for his own new Strip resort last year — placed a bid for Caesars Entertainment, which operates eight Vegas resorts and is currently absorbed into Reno-based El Dorado Resorts. It’s far from a done deal. Caesars is weighing other offers too. [Financial Times]

🚨 Vegas Vacation Leads to Deportation

A 22-year-old college student, who’s lived in the U.S. since he was four years old, was busted, detained, and deported while vacationing with friends at The Strat. Someone in the group responded to an automated checkout reminder text, joking (we presume) to “bomb this place,” which got law enforcement involved. [Nevada Independent]

👍 Congress Actually Gets Something Done for Nevada

After passing the House and Senate, a bill to build a water pipeline beneath the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area was sent to President Trump for approval. The project improves water reliability for Henderson and parts of the Las Vegas Valley — and makes it easier for our urban sprawl to continue. [Nevada Current]

⛽ Reminder: Don’t Drive with Open Gas Canisters

An RV driver was transporting gas and didn’t bother screwing a cap on the container. The gas spilled and set off a fire near Jones and Sunset — and now the driver is recovering from burn injuries. [KVVU]
