🌭 How the Sausage Is Made: Fraud
The Las Vegas owner of Richard’s Brazilian Sausage company was handed a four-year federal prison sentence after scamming a local food brokerage firm out of $4 million. Prosecutors describe it as a Ponzi-style fraud scheme: Richard Vairo took payments from the brokerage while promising returns from sausage sales that never took place. [KLAS]
🪖 Did a Local Veteran Activist Inspire Rambo?
Decorated Vietnam War veteran, political activist, and media figure Bo Gritz died at 87 in Sandy Valley after a battle with cancer. A lot of headlines describe him as the inspiration for John Rambo in “First Blood” (solid flick btw 👍), although the 1982 film was based on a book that drew from the troubled life of World War II hero Audie Murphy. Gritz’s advocacy for Vietnam prisoners of war seems more in line with the 1985 “Rambo” sequel, penned by star Sylvester Stallone, but I can’t find hard confirmation on that. [TMZ/People]
💰 Bank of Metallica Expands Operations
