🐐 Animal sanctuary fights to survive

March 5, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess

🥱 Did you wake up early to watch the Eastside Cannery implosion this morning?

Lingering demolition debris could make today’s wind and dust advisory even worse for those on the east side of the valley.

What's CITY Talking About

🙃 Henderson Hijinks Continue

Henderson City Councilwoman Carrie Cox — already indicted over allegations of secretly recording coworkers — is getting into yet another legal battle with a fellow council member. Cox is suing Jim Seebock for battery, claiming she was hit in the arm three times during a heated exchange. Cox says he doesn’t remember doing it — and if he did, it was a “touch.” [KLAS]

  • Meanwhile, Henderson found time to pass new laws for e-bikes and e-scooters. Helmets are now required for those 18 and under, parents could be liable for kids messing around on the vehicles, and police officers have new impounding rights when violations are made. [KSNV]
  • Was Henderson always so fascinating? 🧐 City Cast Las Vegas looks at the hidden history of Henderson — and how it shaped the community we know today. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🐓 Clark County Threatens Animal Sanctuary

McKee Ranch has been around for more than 25 years, but suddenly faces thousands in fines that could cause the farm and animal sanctuary to shut down. Clark County is taking issue with roaming roosters and unpermitted structures near roadways. The owners, who are circulating a petition and hosting a fundraiser this weekend, say the property is being unfairly targeted due to a nearby home development in the works. [KSNV]

👷 Vegas Leads Nation in Construction Job Losses

The Las Vegas Valley lost 11% of its construction workforce last year, the highest percentage in the nation. For perspective, that’s roughly 8,600 jobs, about the same lost in New York. More than half of Nevada’s construction workers are foreign born — and the threat of immigration enforcement is believed to be a factor. The drop in tourism doesn’t help either, potentially affecting the pace of future construction projects. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • The news comes the same week Las Vegas hosts CONEXPO-CON/AGG, the largest construction trade show in the country. The event hoped to set a world record for the most people wearing safety vests in one place — but fell short due to a counting technicality. [KLAS]
