What's CITY Talking About

🚰 Nevada’s New Idea to Save the Colorado River

After seven states failed to meet a deadline on negotiations to share the Colorado River, the lower basin states of Nevada, California, and Arizona are taking issue with five Interior Department proposals, which all favor the upper basin states while ignoring the precedents of the 1922 “Law of the River” agreement. [Los Angeles Times]

  • Nevada is pitching an emergency short-term plan — instead of a 20-year plan — that would evaluate conditions every six months, ease the pressure on upper basin states to make cuts, and preserve flow to Lake Mead and Lake Powell. So far, California is on board. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🪄 David Copperfield's Disappearing Act

David Copperfield’s magic show at the MGM Grand is ending after 25 years, making it older than some of his girlfriends. (I kid! Maybe.) Copperfield says the show performed for more than 7 million people during that time — and he'll squeeze a few more in before wrapping things up on April 30. No reason was given for the closure, but it might have something to do with a failure to make the Epstein Files vanish. [Los Angeles Magazine]

😕 The Bubble Bursts for "Immersive" Attractions

Illuminarium abruptly closed at AREA15, joining a wave of other video-centric “immersive attractions” that failed to last in Las Vegas, and proving how tough it is to keep up with the Sphere. I had a soft spot for Illuminarium, now buried in an immersive graveyard that also includes Arcadia Earth, Immersive Van Gogh, Particle Ink, and Perception (a truly awful experience that made me feel trapped inside a 90s screensaver). • AREA15 still has plenty of fun things to do as it continues to expand. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Our Priority is Your Drinking Water

Southern Nevada's water supply meets or exceeds all state andfederal drinking water standards. However, the taste of tap water may not appeal to you. Infuse a glass with lemon slices, use a filter or chill a large carafe in the refrigerator. Learn more ways to enhance the taste at snwa.com.

🗳️ Tariffs Emerge as a Key Issue in the Nevada Governor’s Race

Nevada is among 24 states suing the Trump administration over plans to move forward with global tariffs despite a Supreme Court ruling that struck down El Presidente’s authority to do so. Attorney General Aaron Ford is leading Nevada’s role in the effort — and happens to be running for governor this year, hoping to become the Democratic nominee. [Associated Press/Nevada Independent]

We are going back to court to defend Nevada consumers, protect our economy, and uphold the separation of powers.”
Attorney General Aaron Ford, (D) Nevada

The Republican who currently holds the job, Gov. Joe Lombardo, says Ford has “never done anything on his own” in reference to the suit and claims Ford’s office doesn’t return efforts to communicate. Lombardo also says he can’t control or influence President Trump’s tariff policy and doesn’t believe Americans should receive a refund on tariffs paid so far. [KTNV]

Because of [tariff] revenue, we're domesticating manufacturing. We're domesticating jobs back into the United States.
Governor Joe Lombardo, (R) Nevada
  • Congressional Democrats report the average Nevada family paid an additional $941 over an eight month period in 2025 due to inflation boosted by tariffs. (The average American household was $1,197.50) Prices spiked especially high for clothing, electronics, and computers — although for me, it’s mostly been coffee and wine ☕ 🍷 [Nevada Independent]
  • Vegas restaurants that already operate on slim margins say they’re waiting for tariff relief — and have already been forced to raise prices. [KTNV]
  • A federal judge says companies are entitled to a tariff refund, although the legal battle won’t be settled anytime soon. [KVVU]

😦 Are We Done with Badlands Yet?

The fallout continues after the City of Las Vegas paid a big-money settlement over a stalled residential golf course community. City Cast Las Vegas takes a closer look at why the Badlands fiasco continues to resonate in what’s shaping up to be a pivotal year in local politics. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Most of us recognize this — the logo for Aerosmith, an act that’s rocked both arenas and theaters in Vegas over the years and even had a residency. The illuminated piece is a stage prop used on the band’s 2004 tour.

Where is it now?
