⛽ Why the gas crisis is worse in Nevada

March 13, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess

🎙️ Let’s begin Friday the 13th with a reminder for all you lucky Las Vegans out there.

City Cast just launched a new podcast called “Your City Could Be Better.” It’s usually hosted by our CEO David Plotz, but this week, we’ve got hosts from Chicago and D.C. hopping on to break down an important issue: federal policing.

Episodes drop Friday — and each week is a different topic. Check it out 👍

What's CITY Talking About

⛽ Gas Prices … Oh Boy

Gas prices are up by 14% in Nevada. Might have something to do with a war in the Middle East and ships getting attacked in the Strait of Hormuz 🤔 It doesn’t help that California has new environmental regulations that could disrupt the flow of fuel to Nevada, so Gov. Lombardo is formally asking our neighbors in the Sunshine State to reconsider. [Nevada Independent]

  • The rising cost of gas is our hot headline 🔥 in the latest Friday News Roundup. The City Cast Las Vegas team also discusses the use of artificial intelligence for unemployment benefit appeals, the evolution of the Las Vegas tourist, and a new way to get around town via smartphone. 🌴 Landscaper Survives Crossbow Attack

A landscaper escaped with what appear to be relatively minor injuries after he was shot in the head by a crossbow while working at a Northwest condo complex. Police say the suspect was a little on edge after picking up a towed car that morning — and got mad at the noise from the landscaper’s blower. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

⛳ Kids Await Punishment for Golf Course Destruction

Three juveniles were arrested for vandalising Legacy Golf Course. Was it graffiti? Smashing up the clubhouse? No, they were riding e-bikes across the greens. [KVVU]

🚧 Days Numbered for Historic Church

The next big Las Vegas demolition isn’t a casino. It’s the decades-old University United Methodist Church on Maryland Parkway, which was bought by UNLV last year. The congregation moved out in December and held a “decommissioning” ceremony to say the land is no longer sacred. (I didn’t know you could flip a switch on stuff like that.) [KLAS]

🛒 Attention Discount Shoppers

The Albertson’s near Flamingo and Maryland is holding a 50% off sale on pretty much anything (except magazines, glasses, gift cards and cigarettes) until it closes for good on April 15. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🌎 Saturday Is Pi Day

No, not that kind of pie or this kind of pie. We’re talking about March 14 (3.14) to celebrate pi … which has to do with math or something. And the Sphere is taking a break from showing the Metallica logo on its exterior to display Pi Day-themed artwork from winners in a student contest. [KSNV]

Our Priority is Your Drinking Water

Southern Nevada's water supply meets or exceeds all state andfederal drinking water standards. However, the taste of tap water may not appeal to you. Infuse a glass with lemon slices, use a filter or chill a large carafe in the refrigerator. Learn more ways to enhance the taste at snwa.com.
